Richard Barnet, the son of the number one famous American printmaker, Wil Barnet, is very much an artist in his own right. His sculptures have attracted attention nation-wide. Richard Barnet’s area of expertise understands that the word sculpture comes from the Latin, sculptura, to carve. The second most favorite method of sculpture, is not carving, but a building up process by use of soft materials, such as clay or wax. This allows a greater chance for experimenting and change as the work progresses. It is in this skill that lays one of Richard Barnet’s great talents. He is aware that the work must be controlled through compactness of design. Richard knows that whether one emphasizes the glorified human figure as in the greatest of Greek Classical periods, or accenting the spirituality of man in the abstract, simplicity is the most necessary ingredient of the effectiveness of sculpture. It is in this knowledge, of the interplay between direct observation of models and from imagination, lies the talent and power portrayed in his work. His work has been distributed widely through-out the country. Gioia
