SERGEI POLYAKOV

MIRAGE

oil on canvas       20 x 17 inches

Sergei Polyakov was born in Gomel, Belarus in 1956. His works are in museums and famous collections throughout the world. Polyakov’s work depicts myths and fantasies and embodies a Russian sense of romanticism, which was absent from the work of young Soviet artists in the 1980’s. In his work Polyakov depicts Slavic pagan myths, a rare source of inspiration. These paintings which at times border on the grotesque have been compared to the later work of Goya. These paintings have an explosive energy that characterizes Polyakov’s work.
